Date: 15 - 18 September 2025

Organizer: IRENA

Description: APRA and the Government of Mozambique, through the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy, are organising a national consultation for the country from 15 to 18 September 2025. This marks the start of APRA’s engagement with Mozambique since it joined the Partnership during COP29 in Baku.

Led by H.E. Estevão Tomás Rafael Pale, Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, and joined by high-level representatives from partner countries, the event will gather national and international stakeholders for a workshop and bilateral meetings with government entities and partners.

Consultation outcomes will inform a national action plan for Mozambique, identifying the country’s priorities and serving as the basis for APRA’s work to support and accelerate its energy transition. The consultation will also highlight national initiatives and explore opportunities for IRENA and APRA partners to provide targeted support within the proposed areas of collaboration.

Organizer: IRENA

Description: Despite growing global progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Africa remains the least electrified region, receiving less than 2% of global energy investment. To address this, the Accelerated Partnership for Renewables in Africa (APRA), a country-led alliance supported by IRENA and international partners aims to enhance energy access through finance mobilisation, private sector engagement, and capacity building. In Ethiopia, APRA activities are being implemented in close collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Energy, supporting the country's efforts to expand access, diversify its energy mix, and attract private investment. Strengthening the capacity of developers, financial institutions, and policymakers in project finance is essential to scale renewable energy deployment and secure sustainable investment.

The workshop aims to strengthen the capacities of local stakeholders in Ethiopia in structuring renewable energy projects to improve their bankability and access to finance. Delivered in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Energy, the workshop will focus on leveraging IRENA’s Climate Investment Platform (CIP) and the Energy Transition Accelerator Financing (ETAF) Platform. In addition to technical training, the event will serve as a platform for project developers and financiers to engage in dialogue around upcoming project opportunities. Selected projects may be considered for presentation at the next APRA Investment Forum in Sierra Leone.

Organizer: EAGE

Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Description: African governments are committed to the development of renewable energy sources to meet large percentage of their energy requirements as part of their strategy to achieve the intended Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) to lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Hydropower contributes the largest share of electricity consumed in many countries in Africa, however, with challenges of climate change, new focus areas needs to be put in place to ensure sustainable production and economic development of new hydropower projects. On the other hand, geothermal energy is seeing new growth impetus as it is climate neutral, baseload, low cost, and abundant source of power for many countries located along the East African rift system.
