Description: Road transport contributes the majority of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions of the transport sector. Its transition requires an accelerated deployment of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure paired with renewables-based electricity. However, various barriers are delaying the transition process in many markets. Policies and measures are urgently needed to address these barriers and accelerate the process. These include fuel efficiency standards, urban mobility policies, financial and fiscal incentives, as well as tailored measures and incentives for electric cars, two- and three-wheelers, buses, trucks, and the development of smart charging.
This event will share findings of IRENA’s forthcoming report, “Policies for advancing the renewables-based electrification of road transport”. It will highlight policies and examples to address current barriers and promote the renewables-based electrification of road transport in different contexts. A panel of experts will share insights and best practices from various regional perspectives.
