Energy outlook for Mozambique 2012-2030: LEAP-based scenarios for energy demand and power generation

Publication date: 2012

Author: IESE

Description: Mozambique has abundant and yet largely unexplored natural resources. While the Cahora Bassa dam (HCB), with 2075 MW of capacity, is one of the largest hydropower installations in Africa, Mozambique could build another 5000 MW of hydropower. The country has large sedimentary basins of natural gas: onshore reserves (in Pande and Temane) have been discovered and off-shore areas in the Rovuma basin is now researched and could contain more than 100 trillion cubic feet of gas.
