AFRICA: HydroPower Dominates Africa’s Renewables But Over 80% Of Its Potential Remains Untapped. Read the article >>

Micro-hydropower systems and large-scale grid-connected hydropower plants take the largest share in Africa’s renewable energy mix. As of 2010, hydropower represented 21% of Africa’s total installed energy capacity*. In 2013, the proportion of hydropower in the continent’s renewable energy mix was about 84%.

ZAMBIA: GET FiT Zambia invites bids for small hydro tender. View details >>

In collaboration with the Ministry of Energy (MoE) and other Zambian government stakeholders, GET FiT Zambia is actively creating the framework for Round 2 of the program, the 100 MW GET FiT Zambia Small Hydro Tender. In line with the REFiT Strategy, this tender will support the development of small hydro projects up to 20 MW of installed capacity.

The Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities invites bids for the procurement of services for a survey on energy consumption and energy efficiency in the services sector.

Energy Catalyst Round 6 by Innovate UK. More info >>

Deadline: 14 November 2018 - The APP is supporting the Innovate UK to deploy the £10 million Energy Catalyst Round 6, a grant programme designed to address the need for clean, affordable and secure energy in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Demo Environment Grant Programme. More info >>

Deadline: 21 October 2018 - The APP is supporting the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth (Tillväxtverket) on the Demo Environment Grant Programme, financed by Swedish Agency for Development Cooperation (Sida) and designed to support international technology transfers into 4 African countries: Kenya, Mozambique, Tanzania and Zambia.

FINANCING

IRENA/ADFD Project Facility – 7th Cycle Call for Proposals. More info >>

Opens: 12 November 2018 - The APP is supporting the IRENA/ADFD Project Facility, funded by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) and with 7th Cycle Call for Proposals now accepting registrations. USD 5 million to USD 15 million in concessional loans is available at 1% or 2% loan rates, to cover up to half of the total project costs.
